Welcome To The Loony Dook

Sunday 1 January 2012
Another hugely successful Loony Dook on 1 January, the 26th successive event which welcomed thousands of people to Queensferry with over one thousand taking the plunge in the icy waters of the Forth but this year in almost perfect conditions. Once again the pre-Dook parade was led by our Town Crier Lindsay Munro with Loony Dook veterans of 26 years Jim MacKenzie and Iain "Rambo" Armstrong joined again by our local Councillor Norman Work and Community Councillor Diane Job. Many thousands of pounds will have been raised for a variety of charities including CHAS, Care in the Community, Marie Curie, Friends of the Sick Kids, Scottish Autism, Cancer Research UK, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Help for Heroes and many more. The RNLI Queensferry Station will of course receive a donation from the registration fee income in addition to sponsorship from Dookers.
Local Loony Dook liaison David Steel once again thanks all those involved for all the hard work and preparation, including Unique Events, City of Edinburgh Council, Lothian and Borders Police, British Red Cross and Queensferry Lifeboat management and crew. We are grateful for the support from sponsors Haggis Adventures, Town Crier Lindsay Munro for leading the parade and Kevin Mullen for looking after the website. There are many others without whose help and cooperation throughout the year the Loony Dook could not happen: grateful thanks to them all.
We look forward to welcoming Dookers old and new to the 1 January 2013 event which will be the 27th in succession.
